What are your sources of strength? This is the question that the peer support group at Payette High School is asking of fellow students. This support group was designed with the intent to help kids if they are experiencing anxiety, stress, or any other concern. Students with concerns or needing help will have a safe place to turn to that is not intimidating. By reaching out to another student, youth can feel more comfortable and more apt to ask for help and support than they might otherwise not feel capable of doing so. Sources of Strength members will then be able to provide the student with the helpful information or support they need or tell an adult who can help them support their peer.

Sources of Strength is a student based, peer leader organization that helps all students recognize and utilize individual strengths that help them cope with the many stresses of life. Through school-wide campaigns created by the peer leader group, students participate in activities that help them connect with others within the school and community that provide positive support. These activities will also help the student population to become aware that the group exists are there to help in a non-intimidating way.

The peer leader group was selected by a team of teachers, counselors, and administrators.  They attended a day of training in February and planned a series of school-wide events to introduce the organization to the high school.  On March 1, the peer leader group shared details of the organization through a video during the monthly celebration assembly at Payette High School.
