New York based SolarFi to launch crowdfunding campaign at Microsoft in Boston

Company is preparing for full launch of social impact venture for African communities

New York-based SolarFi, which is poised to unveil plans to connect underserved and unconnected populations in Africa through solar-powered educational kiosk. Even in 2018, over 1.2 billion people globally lack access to electricity. In Africa alone, 600 million people have no power. This lack of energy has been a barrier to social and economic development.

Now, SolarFi will connect people to solar power and WiFi. Educational programs can be accessed on the SolarFi platform. The company will unveil its technology to peers has announced its online crowdfunding launch, which will take place on Friday, November 2 at Microsoft’s store at the Prudential Tower in Boston. This launch will coincide with an online launch at www.backmycampaign.com of their new Solar-Powered Kiosk. The grand finale will be held at Microsoft’s Fifth Avenue flagship store in NYC on November 28.

SolarFi is coming fresh off HubWeek where they were selected as one of the top 100 start-up business change-makers of 2018 by the hosts of the event: Harvard University, MIT and the Boston Globe. They are led by Jerry Shaye, Hon. Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah and Antonio Dixon.

SolarFi also acts as a source of revenue for entrepreneurs, providing a “business in a box,” and the potential for promoting micro-franchises based on a solar-power-generating kiosk. One kiosk can charge mobile phones, offer virtual top-up service to buy mobile airtime, and prepaid utilities.The booths also deliver Internet and local digital content. Kiosks can charge up to 100 phones simultaneously.
