Coeur d’Alene Festival – The New Upstart for Start-Ups

October 26 02:25 2018

While some may think that Silicon Valley leads the race as 21st century’s hotspot for innovation, one surprising contender is ready to claim The Valley’s crown as the kindle of advanced technology and start-ups: Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

According to Brookings Institution, which recently examined the Inc. 5000 list of startups nationwide, Coeur d’Alene, a city in north-west Idaho with a population of just 139,501, has the densest concentration of startups among Idaho metropolitan areas, with 17 startups currently active in the city.

However, these figures serve only as a one-dimensional representation of the technology-related hustle and bustle taking place in Coeur d’Alene. The city holds the distinction of being the first in the world to grant robots the same legal protections as humans. This essentially translates to, should one, for example, assault or kidnap a robot, they would be charged with the respective crimes as they would have had they committed them against one of their fellow men. What’s more, the city has meted out an ordinance which allows the public use of robots in public properties – something which allowed Starship Technologies, an Estonia-based robot delivery company created by two co-founders of Skype, to test out their robots on-site in Coeur d’Alene.

On the events front, the Annual Coeur d’Alene Robotics Festival is a magnet from anyone to early startup team members to tech giants such as Facebook, Google, and Microsoft, with more than 1,000 attendees and 25 global experts flown in to the city to talk about cutting-edge innovations in the field of robotics and AI.

Two upcoming Coeur d’Alene festivals, the Think Big Festival and Social Media Week CDA, are expected to draw the most brilliant minds in AI and online technology, which will participate in milestone masterminds that aim to celebrate the future of technology, as well as its role in a rapidly changing world.

The Think Big Festival is a three-day event where experts in robotics and technology gather to share, learn, and grow. Over the course of 72 hours, participants attend a private concert, listen to talks discussing the latest challenges in the industry, discuss emerging trends, and get hands-on with bleeding edge products. In 2018 the Think Big Festivals guest speakers came from a diverse range of backgrounds and included Alex Knoll, a brilliant 12-year old app developer who was a featured guest on The Ellen Show; Burt Rutan, the eminent aerospace engineer, and Gary Bolles, who chairs for the Future of Work at Singularity University.

The 2018 Social Media Week CDA festival featured riveting talks from speakers like Andrea Vahl, the co-founder of Social Media Manager School known for her passion for social media and business; Adam Chronister, a digital marketer with an impressive body of research on the topic of technical SEO, and Tom T. O’Keefe, real estate developer; CEO of O’Keefe Development; founder of Starbuck’s competitor/antithesis Tully’s coffee; board member for JDRF Seattle Guild and the Museum of Flight, and noted guest speaker on various subjects which include marketing and branding.

The next Social Media Week CDA festival, which is set to be held in June, 2019, already promises an exciting line-up of leading minds and heavy hitters in online communications, technology and marketing ready to spread their wisdom and equip future leaders with the resources they need to move forward in their respective industries.

“With so much happening in social media, online technology, and AI, the Think Big Festival and Social Media Week CDA are both excellent resources for industry professionals to immerse themselves in the latest developments and discover new opportunities. It’s events like these which help prepare the world for a brighter future,” said Mr. said Chris Cochran, Chief Operating Officer for the Innovation Collective.

All further developments with regards to Coeur d’Alene events will be communicated in future releases to the press.
